A break from running; time to find our parrot

Posted by on May 21, 2013 in Armonía, Birdlife International, Birds, Conservation, Mammals, Photos | 0 comments

We have been unusually quiet over the last week. The reason is we took time out to learn more about the charity, Armonia,  we are jointly running for. If a picture speaks a thousand words, please enjoy a 29,000 word essay below, click the arrow on the gallery to begin playback. It has been an incredible few days, deep in the Beni Wetlands, a place only possible to arrive in by little plane (yes, you read correctly, ug). Alone in the area which will become the blue-throated macaw reserve, we spent hours on horseback, on foot, by boat on the extensive wetlands transfixed by extraordinary...

Running into 1.7 million people!

Posted by on Apr 20, 2013 in Armonía, Birdlife International, Birds, Conservation | 0 comments

On Monday we arrived Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. A city of over 1.7 million people. It’s the biggest city of the expedition so far. And during the course of the 21 day run from the Argentinian border of Yacuiba to this sprawling city in the skirts of the Amazon basin, we are convinced we have met a good percentage of the city’s inhabitants! The road to the city surprised us; there was far less agriculture than we would have imagined. Instead, chaco, a type of scrubby, thorny, woodland that we had become familiar with; running through hundreds of miles of it in central and...

Saving macaws, anteaters and the other weird and wonderful wildlife of South America!

Posted by on Feb 18, 2013 in Armonía, Birdlife International, Birds, Conservation, Sponsorship and Donations | 0 comments

Help us protect some of the last remaining wildlands in Bolivia, home to macaws, jaguars and anteaters.. During the coming months of the expedition, we’ll be running 20 miles per day in a bid to secure over 5000 GBP for BirdLife International and their partner Armonía, who are working to protect critically endangered species and habitats. We have met with both charities and are excited to be raising money towards their fantastic work; conserving wildlife and their habitats in South America. We´re specifically raising money for two projects instrumental to the restoration of...

Arrival into St Martin de Los Andes and a Bird Fair

Posted by on Nov 23, 2012 in Birdlife International | 0 comments

We arrived into St Martin de Los Andes yesterday. We were meant to leave today, but found out that the South American Bird Fair was starting today! What a coincidence! Especially as one of our two charities is BirdLife International! So we set up a store and met with bird and wildlife watchers from the...

The Bolivia Logistical Problem – Help Please?!

Posted by on Sep 16, 2012 in Birdlife International, Running | 1 comment

We have a problem in Bolivia, but it some ways it is a wonderful problem. Through our research to date it seems that we may have difficulty finding a route from Santa Cruz (where we must visit to see our charity Birdlife International’s partner Armonia whom we are seeking to raise money for) to Guajara-Marim at the border with Brazil. The road does not appear to run through without a massive 1000km de-tour to the West. Good for the area because it means less development with which comes human pressure, bad for us as we are already seeking to run a huge distance! The waterways provide...
